Disclaimer
Please read this before using anything on Build It Right Guide.
General education only
All content on this site, including guides, checklists, calculators and downloadable products, is general educational information. It is not professional, engineering, architectural, legal, financial or construction advice, and it is not a substitute for a licensed professional who can see your property.
Codes, permits and inspections
Building codes, permit rules, licensing requirements and owner-builder rules vary by state, county and city and change over time. You are responsible for learning and following the codes that apply to you, obtaining every required permit, and passing every required inspection. Nothing on this site tells you to skip a permit or inspection, and you should never do so.
Hire licensed professionals
Hire appropriately licensed and insured professionals for structural work, electrical, plumbing, gas, roofing, HVAC, asbestos and lead abatement, and any other work your jurisdiction requires a license for or that is beyond your skill. When in doubt, hire a pro.
Safety
Construction work is dangerous. It can cause serious injury, death, fire, flooding, structural failure and property damage. Use proper protective equipment, follow manufacturer instructions, test for hazardous materials such as lead and asbestos in older homes, and stop if you are unsure.

You use this site and act on its content entirely at your own risk.
